CLEARWATER — Police say a drunk man fatally shot his dog Tuesday
night and tried to bury it in the back yard before passing out.
About 6:20 p.m., police went to 2483 Whitman St. after a neighbor reported hearing gunshots. They found Yuriy Solovyev, 46, lying down in the yard with a dead 9-year-old chow nearby.
Officers learned that Solovyev was arguing with his wife earlier in the evening. When she left the house, he started drinking until he was extremely intoxicated, police said.
Solovyev fired his gun, shooting his dog multiple times and killing it; one bullet bounced off Solovyev's fence and went through a neighbor's window, but no one was injured, police said.
Police said it appeared that Solovyev was burying his dead dog when he passed out.
He was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation before being charged with felony animal cruelty and the improper discharge of a firearm, police said.

SPRING HILL — The arrest report gives the following account: Mark Nycel, 55, became angry with his daughter early Wednesday for having her music too loud and when her cat ran into his bedroom.
He told her he was going to strangle the cat, and when she protested, he kicked down his door, grabbed a loaded 9 mm pistol and walked toward her.
His wife intervened to stop him, but Nycel pointed the gun at her then pushed her out of the way and headed toward his daughter. He pointed the gun at her head, and tapped her on the chin with the gun.
Deputies on their way to the scene were told that Nycel had several firearms, including assault weapons, inside his house and had said that he would kill anyone who came to the front door.
The wife and daughter managed to get out of the house before Nycel barricaded himself inside. A deputy had Nycel on the phone and a short time later, he walked out with a bayonet at his own throat. He then stabbed at a trash can before deputies subdued him using a Taser.
Nycel was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and domestic battery and was held in the Hernando County Jail without bail.

Christine Lightfoot, the friends' mother, was with them.
Litten, testifying in court Tuesday, said he was aware that Lightfoot knew someone who went by the nickname "Scooter." So as he was rolling around the driveway on a scooter, he said to Lightfoot, "Does this remind you of anybody?"
Scooter, it seems, was a former boyfriend of Lightfoot's, and she did not take the teasing well.
Next, according to authorities and Litten, Lightfoot told her 13-year-old son to get a gun. The boy returned with a .22-caliber rifle from under a bed and handed it to his mother.
Then, Litten said, Lightfoot cocked it and fired into his belly.

A 12-year-old Holiday boy was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer Friday after pointing a BB gun at a trooper, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
According to the FHP, at 11:06 p.m., a trooper was sent to a vehicle crash. He saw a red flash from a laser light, lost vision momentarily, swerved and almost hit a concrete wall. He stopped and saw a boy taking cover behind a wall, pointing what appeared to be a pistol at the trooper.
The trooper got out of his patrol car and saw the laser light on his chest and ran to the back of the car to take cover. He saw the boy throw down the pistol and drop to his knees. The trooper ran toward the boy, who rolled down an embankment along with another 12-year-old boy. The first boy then threw the laser light into a canal.
The trooper arrested the boy with the laser light and took a black plastic BB gun from him. He was taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center, telling the trooper, “Thank you for not shooting me.”

Mozzarella caprese -- fresh cheese and tomatoes drizzled with olive oil and basil -- apparently is a popular item at Pizza Time restaurant in Boca Raton. So popular, in fact, that the chef threated a waitress with violence if she brought him one more order for the salad.
Police said chef and manager Mark DeCraepeo told the waitress that if she brought him yet another ticket for mozzarella caprese, "I swear to God I'll shoot you in the forehead." He then slammed a handgun in a holster down on the countertop. "Now you see I'm (expletive) serious, I'll put a bullet right in your forehead," DeCraepeo hollered, according to police.
The waitress worked the rest of her shift but called police that evening to report the incident. Chef DeCraepeo allegedly told police he did have a gun but that he did not point it at anyone. He was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with intent to commit a feloy and carted off to jail.
